The Daily Mercury reported that a man was refused bail after he was charged with over 70 offences relating to alleged rape and violence against his then wife and her four children.
After an investigation that lasted more than three months, police alleged that the man abused the woman and her children for seven years. He is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the children when they were all younger than ten years old. He’s also accused of raping his wife multiple times. Other charges relate to allegations of grooming and violence, threats to kill the children if they told anyone what he was doing, and torturing or killing their pets.
The man denies all the charges and his lawyer claimed the woman and children are lying, that “came to light in the course of a bitter marital break up”.
I don’t know how someone reads this whole story and comes up with a headline about a “horrific comment” (WTF?) and calls it an “alleged wife rape” – was she allegedly his wife? Did she allegedly rape someone? – and still manages to entirely erase the man charged with all these crimes from a headline about the crimes he’s accused of committing. That’s some impressive journalistic gymnastics.
