NewsMail reposted a Fox News article about on a case in America where a flight attendant has filed a civil suit against Alaska Airlines, claiming she was fired after she reported a first officer from the airline had drugged and raped her.
The article also outlines at least one other very similar case against Alaska Airlines and a number of other allegations made against other airlines in America.
One of the women quoted in the story said “I’m not the first, but I would love to be the last, but this is a problem in this industry.”
Perhaps an article about claims of systemic sexual violence in airlines across America could mention something about sexual violence in the headline. “Flight attendant’s shock allegation at first officer” could mean anything. Did she stick him with a cattle prod? Is she claiming he jumped out at her wearing a clown suit and yelling BOO?
No. She says the first officer of a flight she was working on drugged her and raped her. And that after this happened and she reported it to her employer, she was fired while the man she says raped her is still working there and no action have been taken against him. These things might be shocking but shock is not the story. We see hundreds of headline float past on our social media feeds every day, we only click on a very few of them. This is why it’s so important to make sure the headlines get it right, or at the very least, don’t get it completely wrong.
