A man charged with, to quote the article, “seven counts of rape, 30 counts of carnal knowledge of a child under 16, 26 counts of indecent treatment and one count of making child exploitation material” is not facing charges of having “sex” with children.

No one can have “sex” with children.

Sex requires consent, children cannot give consent, therefore any sexual activity that involves children is, by definition, not sex, it’s rape or abuse.

If someone is accused or charged with such crimes, it may well be “alleged abuse” or “alleged rape”, but it’s still not sex.
