Alleged feminist website Mamamia republished an AAP report about a man who sexually abused a homeless 11 year old girl under a headline claiming he “befriended”her. The word befriended was in quote marks but there is no quote attributed in the article. It appears they’re quoting themselves.
It’s staggering that anyone would have to point out that sexually abusing an 11 year old girl has nothing to do with friendship. He groomed her, took advantage of an extremely vulnerable child in a dangerous situation and committed sexual violence against her. This is why he was jailed. Befriending a vulnerable child is not a criminal act. Grooming and sexually abusing an 11 year old girl is both repellent and criminal.
This constant diminishing of men’s sexual violence against women and children by the media is vile and incomprehensible.
