Nine News was one of many outlets that published an AAP report about a man who, after being convicted of grooming, sexually abusing, and sexually assaulting four girls, was also convicted and sentenced for raping a woman.
He is not a “sex offender”. He is a rape offender. Rape and sex are not interchangeable words, they describe fundamentally different actions. Words give form to thought, so if someone sees no difference between the words, do they think there is no difference between the acts?
He was not “slapped with extra jail time”. He is one of the very few men who experience consequences for raping women and girls. He is not the victim.
He did not rape a car. He raped a woman. A whole human person who has a life before she was raped and will have a life afterwards, although it will be a profoundly different life than the one she should have had if this man had not chosen to rape her.
Cruel. Ignorant. Unethical. Inaccurate. Misogynistic. Misleading. Stupid. Inexcusable. Execrable. I’m running out of time and patience, not adjectives.
