The Australian’s report about a 58 year old man who allegedly broke into an 85 year old man’s house and sexually assaulted him – twice in one night – is another example of the male perpetrators of sexual violence being erased from headlines.
NSW police report the 58 year old “was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with aggravated sexual assault — break and enter with intent (x2); attempted sexual assault (x2); and indecent assault (x2).”
He’s been charged, not convicted, but that doesn’t mean he needs to be erased from the headlines it just means reporters can’t state that he did sexual assault the elderly man they have to say he’s been charged over it.
It’s not difficult.
FixedIt is an ongoing project to push back against the media’s constant erasure of violent men and blaming of innocent victims. If you would like to help fund it – even $5 a month makes a big difference – please consider becoming a Patron
