FixedIt: She was a woman and a person

The Queensland Times reported on new evidence in Elizabeth Henry’s 1998 murder. The article also details a number of other women who were murdered in Brisbane around the same time.

In the headline Elizabeth Henry is not a woman or even a person. She’s a “prostitute” with all the undercurrents of shaming and victim blaming inherent in that word.

I thought we’d see the end of this kind of reporting in the aftermath of Tracy Connelly’s murder. I guess not.
